SLIPKNOT Singer To Ring In 2004 With One-Off Cover Band

December 29, 2003

SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor will perform with a one-off side project called the DUM FUX on New Year's Eve at The House of Bricks in Des Moines, Iowa. Dizzy Draztik (Ryan McMurray, ex-leader of Des Moines punk band THE REJECTS) and other local friends will be joining in on the fun. SLOPSYCLE, THE NILLAS and ON A PALE HORSE share the bill.

"It's a cover thing, all about fun," Taylor explained to the Des Moines Register. "Seventies punk and '80s hair metal. Just good songs, just have-fun songs with attitude. . . . We haven't practiced yet. It's gonna suck really bad, but it's gonna be a lot of fun."

Tickets cost $15 in advance from the bar and are expected to sell out.

Meanwhile, SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn Crahan's TO MY SURPRISE is a more permanent side project with fellow Des Moines musicians Brandon Darner and Stevan Robinson. They're tentatively scheduled to play their first live gig Jan. 3 at Vaudeville Mews, with at least one more local player in the lineup to flesh out the trio. Ticket info TBA.
